Dr. Pedro Ortiz was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and migrated to California when he was 12 years old. After graduating from high school in 1980, he decided to move back to Guadalajara to study medicine. He graduated from the University of Guadalajara in 1991. Dr. Ortiz received his postgraduate training in San Juan Puerto Rico at the University of Puerto Rico school of medicine. He trained at the Cardiovascular Center of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, which has a very successful heart transplant program since 1998. After completing his training he moved back to California with his family. He worked for 2-1/2 years at the White Memorial Medical Center in East Los Angeles and he moved to Albuquerque , New Mexico in 2006 until 2019 before coming to Phoenix Arizona. Dr. Ortiz has been practicing cardiology for the last 15 years. Dr. Ortiz believes in providing excellent and individualized care for all his patients. He specializes in cardiovascular medicine and treats conditions such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure. He has special interest in hypertension, nuclear cardiology, congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease. He is a strong believer in prevention. Dr. Ortiz performs a variety of tests including nuclear stress testing, stress echocardiogram, treadmill stress testing, 2-D echocardiograms, tilt table test, Holter studies and event recorders to identify arrhythmias. He also performs electrical cardioversions for atrial fibrillation and transesophageal echocardiograms. Dr. Ortiz enjoys spending time with his 4 daughters and wife and he is an avid golfer and exercises regularly by running.
