Cancer Care
The IMS Radiation Oncology department is committed to providing high quality, comprehensive and compassionate cancer care. We collaborate with surgeons, medical oncologists and other health care providers to offer individual care to each person requiring radiation therapy.

Radiation Therapy can be administered alone or in combination with chemotherapy and surgery. Our experienced, board-certified physicians are skilled at analyzing and treating most types of cancer.
According to the ACS, over half of all cancer patients receive some type of radiation therapy as part of their treatment.

Procedures:
-
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
-
Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
-
3D Conformal Radiation Therapy (3DCRT)
Radiation Therapy:
Radiation Therapy at IMS is delivered by machines called linear accelerators. Radiation for cancer uses the same kind of energy found in regular x-rays, however, the energy and radiation dose is much higher. The radiation is delivered with pinpoint accuracy to deliver maximum dose to the disease, and to minimize dose to unaffected tissue.

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy/IGRT
Computer controlled linear accelerators safely deliver a precise dose of radiation to a tumor while minimizing the dose to surrounding healthy structures with Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). Higher doses of radiation can be used to treat tumors because the beam conforms to the shape of the tumor. Patients experience fewer side effects with this type of treatment.
3D Conformal Radiation Therapy
Utilizing 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy, the treatment beams are angled and designed to the shape and size of the tumor. The tumor may be treated with 2 or more radiation beams.
Electron Beam Radiation Therapy
Electron beams, a different kind of particle energy, are used to treat Skin cancers and other malignancies that are close to the skin surface.
